Del excelente blog Leopolis, White Elephants (¡Muchas gracias Adrian!), sobre la pipeline Odessa-Brody, a propósito de la visita de Yushchenko a Polonia...
Adrian cuenta que: The 674-km pipeline intended to carry Caspian crude to Europe via Ukraine's Black Sea terminal of Pivdenniy. In 2004, the Yanukovych government decided to reverse the flow of the idle pipeline oil southward.
Diversification from Russian oil was the goal of Odessa-Brody. Now it is described as a 'white elephant' that carries the opposite geopolitical effect (...).
News from Russia today may give further stimulus to the project's viability. Leonid Fedun, the VP of Lukoil told the Financial Times that last year’s Russian oil production of about 10m barrels a day was the highest he would see “in his lifetime.” In western Siberia, “the period of intense oil production is over.”
Caspian reserves only account for 3% of the total global share, whereas Russia is the second largest oil producer on the planet. Central Asian oil, therefore, does not provide a major alternative to Russian crude in an era when China is slurping up oil and buying assets. Russia cannot keep up with Chinese demand.

El mapa (hacer clic sobre el mismo para agrandar) es de Trans-Yug (¿así se llama la empresa?) de Kiev, ojalá que no me demanden por haberla tomado sin autorización. ¡Muchas gracias!
